FIRST EDITION 1925, small oblong format, 125 x 185 mm, 5 x 7 inches, buff cloth, large colour plate on upper cover with title letters made from jolly chaps and 1 lady all dressed in red, green and yellow, cooks, cleaners, butlers and gentlemen, 101 pages. Illustrated title page printed dark brown and yellow on coated paper, 14 humorous colour plates, 23 equally amusing and witty full page black and white illustrations. All illustrations face a short poem, mostly humorous. Spine darkened and slightly worn at head and tail with 2 mm (1/10") nicks to cloth, '5/-' faintly visible at top of spine, name and date in ink on front endpaper. Contents very nice. VG+ (lacking dustwrapper). Lots of amazing characters especially the Porridge Poet stirring his caldron of 'Dried Pronouns, Commas, Syrup of Verbs' etc, the Lollipopinjay who lives on lollipops, and the Pirate of the Kitchen Sink: 'A dish-rag sail, a spoon for oar,/Could any captain wish for more?//Aboard his racing coffee-pot/He roams an ocean steaming hot./No cup or saucer stays afloat/That dares to bump into his boat'.
