The aim of this album is to provide an overview about All-Union Agricultural Exhibition (VSKhV) content and appearance, about monumentality and beauty of its constructions, about skills of Soviet architects, artists, sculptors and landscape designers, who were engaged in constructing and designing process. Album includes introduction article and about one and a half hundred full-page photographic images. VSKhV exhibition was established in 1935. Vyacheslav Oltarzhevsky was appointed to be the chief architect. According to his original plan, all of the pavilions were to be constructed from wood. By 1938, Oltarzhevsky completed most of this plan, notably the Mechanisatsia stepped tower, a predecessor of late stalinist architecture towers. In 1938, a government commission examined the construction and decided that it did not suit the ideological direction of the moment. The exhibition was considered too modest and too temporary. Oltarzhevsky was arrested and his place took Chief Architect of Moscow Sergei Chernyshov. Exhibition was opened August 1, 1939. But in 1941 the exhibition was closed - until the end of World War II. After the war the exhibition was totally reconstructed. The first post-war season introduced in this album was opened in 1954. The huge territory of VSKhV shows a rich variety of world famous architectural monuments - Worker and Kolkhoz Woman by Vera Mukhina, fountains Friendship of Peoples and Stone Flower by Konstantin Topuridze, pavilions of Ukrainian SSR and Uzbek SSR, also Central and Space pavilions, statues of Lenin and Stalin etc. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
