HOP GARDEN. Drawn by F.P. Stephanoff and Engraved by H.C. Austin. Hand-coloured steel-engraving, depicting a group of young girls and boys playfully working in a hop garden.
London: J. Hogarth. 60 Gt. Portland Street. 1845 - Steel-engraving, 11 x 7 inches, with delicate hand-colouring with good margins [outside size 17 x 21 inches]. An attractive image which was issued in 'Findon's Tableaux' which was a portfolio of attractive romantic engravings. Mounted, framed and glazed in a modern polished walnut frame and gilt slip, to conservation standard. The proliferation of images of pretty young girls of the 'Maid of Kent' type were thinly disguised pin-ups of the day.
