Darwin constantly revised each edition, and it is in this issue of the Origin that the word "evolution" occurs for the first time. It had been used in the first edition of The Descent of Man the previous year, but not before in this work. Other additions were a new chapter, VII, and a glossary compiled by W. S. Dallas.
