The Old Man And The Sea
Scribners 1952 - A first US edition, first printing, published by Scribners in 1952. A near FINE copy with lovely clean pages in a near FINE wrapper with one corner slightly rubbed and one small nick at upper spine fold. The wrapper looks striking in its removable Brodart archival protector. This copy conforms to all first issue points: wrapper is priced at $3.00, the photo on the rear panel is tinted blue and the Scribners A is present on the copyright page. There is one gift inscription to the front end paper which reads / Daddy from Peregrine / first edition from New York! / September 1952/. The Peregrine in question was Peregrine Michael Hungerford Pollen and the ‘Daddy’ is Captain Sir. Walter Hungerford Pollen of Norton Hall, Mickleton, Staffordshire,UK. Though a fairly common book, the true first is scarce in such collectible condition. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
