W.H.J. Carter, London 1872 - AN IMPORTANT SCARCE TRAVEL BOOK First edition, xvi., 301pp., 16 black and white illustrations, ex library of the Rubber Grower's Association, with an ink inscription stating Book presented by Mr H Eric Miller to The Rubber Grower's Association Sept 24th 1924, on end paper adn half title there are two pencil inscriptions J H Abbot from J E Wickham, 3 stamps of the Rubber Grower's Associtation, alos paper note on inside cover with pencil notes on pages with references to Rubber, original red blind embossed cloth, gilt lettering on spine, front rubbed with some staining, corners and spine edges slightly rubbed, binding firm, pages clean. Henry Wickham 1846-1928 travelled extensively in Latin America. This was his first book. In 1876 he stole some 70,000 seeds from the rubber bearing Hevea Brasiliensis, which he bought back to Kew from where seeds were sent to Malaysia, Ceylon and Africa with a massive impact on all these countries, not least accounting for the end of the Amazonian rubber boom.
