- London, John Murray, 1913. 8vo. Original red cloth, lettered in gilt and with Grecian ornamentation, in the rarely seen original green printed dust-wrappers; pp. xii, [4], 405, [2, advertisements], with frontispiece and 22 plates (two with two illustrations); minimal wear to the edges of the binding, wrappers with loss at head of spine and lower cover, light foxing, a very good copy; provenance: armorial bookplate Eric Forbes-Boyd inside front cover. First edition, published one year before the American edition, although the author was sometime American Consul at Athens and professor of Greek in Brown University, who spent a summer in Andria and visited some of the nearer Cyclades. The second part is on his antiquarian wanderings to other islands and visits to Keos, Ithaca and Troy. Many photos were provided by the German archaeological Institiute in Athens.
