The Birds of Great Britain: Vol. III [ONLY of Five volumes]
Self Published, London 1873 - Printed for the author by Taylor and Francis of London. Originally printed and issued in 25 parts between 1862 and 1873 for the full five volume set and with the title pages, etc. being published in December of 1873. 76 stunning hand-colored plates each being 21.5 x 14.25 inches (approx. 546.1 x 361.95 mm) in size. Full dark green, pebbled Moroccan leather covers with brilliant gilt decoration, lettering, and interior dentelles. Raised spine bands. All edges of text block are gilded. Marbled end leaves. Bookplate of Henry George Charles, Viscount Lascelles (1882-1947) on front paste down. Covers remain clean with very bright gilt. There is some rubbing at corners, spine ends, and a little on raised spine bands. End leaves are darkened along edges, adjacent to leather on interior of covers. There is a small stain on the very lower edge about three inches long affecting the front free end leaf, the front fly leaf, and the title page. There is a single vertical creases seen on the front and rear blank fly leaves. A half inch closed tear is seen from the lower edge of the title page. Very slight age toning is noted along edges throughout. Overall a very solid, bright, crisp and clean copy. Size: Imperial Folio [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
