Northampton: Double Elephant Press, 2002. Two volumes. 11 1/2 x 15. 42 leaves: fourteen poems printed letterpress and twenty-one etchings, mostly in color. Three of the images are large, foldout etchings; two of the images are repeated, making a total of 23 etchings. The binding suggests the former World Trade Towers on a bright, clear morning: upper cover bears two tall grey & silver towers separated by a white and a blue strip, sky blue endpapers. WITH an extra suite of etchings--each numbered & signed. The etching of a parachuting Christ figure is a monotype, and accompanies the original copperplate. Each volume is housed in a steel-walled grey tray case. Fine set. One of fifteen deluxe copies (from a total edition of 110). An artist's response to the events of 9/11 and its aftermath. The metaphor of falling examines the human and spiritual costs of violence. Mythological & biblical narratives are evoked in a modern framework that may give perspective. Angels descend and ascend ladders, Christ parachutes--as if a heavenly host had arrived to transport souls. Papers were made in New York by Carriage House Papers and Dieu Donné Papermill; text printed by Art Larson in 14 point Emerson; images printed by the artist. Bound by Shoshannah Wineburg and Barry Spence. "Book, Art, Object" page 155. A monotype is a unique preparatory print produced from hand painting the image onto the plate to work out the final composition before the plate is etched.
