A Letter to his Countrymen
John Wiley. Hardcover. New York, 1834. 8vo, publisher's paper covered boards, 116 pp. A quite good copy in the original publisher's paper covered boards. Remnants of a small paper sticker to heel of spine, probably from a personal collection (no library marks present), some light foxing and shelfwear. Remains attractive and well preserved. "An attack in the Whig press led Cooper to write A Letter to His Countrymen (1834), in which he deplored the American practice of deferring to foreign opinion and used the recent reception of his books in the American press as evidence." - ANB.
