Marchand de volailles a la Roca
An extremely attractive Frond lithograph; Brazilian 19th century costumes. 1858. Paris. Made by Jacottet and published by Lemercier. Somewhat heavily foxed, mainly on margins, marginal tears away from image, else fine. 660 mm x 517 mm; 302 mm x 228 mm. Striking lithograph after FrondĀ“s photograph; shows a ?volailles? (poultries) seller doing business with another child in the field. The sensibility of the image is by no means common to observe in 19th century costumes lithographs. The print is beautifully colored and unrivalled in size and beauty; Ribeyrolles ?Brazil Pittoresco. Album de Vistas, panoramas, paisgens...? has swiftly become one of the most sought after and scarce works on Brazil. ?This album of magnificent engravings is an excellent iconographic document and is very rare? (Borba de Moraes). Borba de Moraes, p. 737.
