Doubleday & McClure Co., New York 1899 - In the original gray printed dust jacket. First issue with "so pretty" on page 245. INSCRIBED and signed in full by the author, "Newton Booth Tarkington, and with a Lewis Carroll quote, in the author's hand. The quote also provides the title for chapter four; 384 pages. Bound in green pictorial cloth depicting a stalk of corn in cream, lettered and accented in orange; spine lettered in gilt and again stamped with a corn stalk, all plants pointing upward; a lovely copy nearly fine, in the rare printed dust jacket showing old tape mends and loss at spine. Housed in an early morocco backed slipcase showing a few scuffs and chemise. There is no recorded sale of this title in it's original dust jacket. [Attributes: First Edition]
