The Countess of Pemroke's Arcadia
William Du-Gard, London 1662 - Described as 'The Eleventh Edition, with his Life and Death; a brief Table of the Principla Heads, and som other new Additions.' The 'Arcadia' divides into seven 'books' (pp 519) with the following 'additions' - 'Sonnets', 'The Defence of Poesie', 'Astrophel & Stella', 'The Suiter', [Address to] James VI of Scotland (by Ja. Johnstoun), 'Supplement to the 3rd Book', and 'A Remedie for Love'. Five raised bands on spine, gilt decoration on boards. Please note both boards (in particular the front) are heavily worn, and are detached. Small section of leaf 621/22 removed - with no loss on 621 but with some on 622. Front pastedown is of marbled paper, as is the rear free end paper. Text block binding is sound. This book is very suitable for rebinding. Further images available on request. Queries welcome.
