Typed letter signed to Eileen Cond.
London: 5 December 1957 - Single sheet (204 x 127 mm), letterhead of Kemsley House, London, W.C.1., with recipient's name handwritten, addressed to: Miss Eileen Cond, Stream Cottage, Sidmouth, Devon. Lightly creased where folded, tiny closed tear to lower right-hand tip, in excellent condition. Fleming writes to this "most faithful follower" of his fortunes: "I well remember my pleasure at getting your letter shortly after 'Casino Royale' was published. It was my first fan letter from a member of the public! here, with my very best wishes, is your bookplate for 'The Diamond Smugglers'." Eileen Cond was a book collector who sent out her bookplate to her favourite authors, many of whom signed and returned them to her. Cond's copy of The Diamond Smugglers, which was published a month prior to this letter, was sold at Heritage Auctions in 2008; Fleming inscribed the bookplate "To Eileen Cond – the faithful one – from Ian Fleming, 1957". [Attributes: Signed Copy]
