James Ridgway, London 1828 - Two volumes bound as one. xiv, 362; xi, [1], 418pp. With half-titles, an engraved portrait frontispiece to Vol. I, and a folding plan of the Battle of Trafalgar. Contemporary half-calf, marbled boards, contrasting black morocco lettering-piece, gilt. Rubbed, upper joint split. Ink ownership inscription to FEP; 'Rear Admiral / Sir Graham E. Hamond / 1829', offsetting to Vol. I title-page, very occasional light spotting. The second edition, printed in the same year as the first, of the collected correspondence of naval officer Cuthbert Collingwood (1748-1810). A highly respected member of the Royal Navy, Collingwood maintained a close relationship with Lord Horatio Nelson - letters between the two being included here alongside Collingwood's dispatches from Trafalgar that reveal his conduct during that battle. Edited by the spouse of Collingwood's daughter, the work would run to five editions by 1837. Sir Graham Eden Hamond (1779-1862), respected naval officer notable for his commands during the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. Following a distinguished career, including a period serving as Commander-in-Chief, South American Station, Hamond would attain the rank of Admiral of the Fleet. Size: 8vo [Attributes: Hard Cover]
