Dutton and Company 1881 - First Illustrated Edition, actually published in October 1880. 8vo, publishers original green cloth, lettered and pictorially decorated in black and gilt on the spine and upper cover. vi, 271, (9 ads). A very nice copy, especially bright and well preserved, only slight evidence of aging at the tips, crease to the rear cover. A VERY NICE COPY OF THE FIRST ILLUSTRATED EDITION IN COLLECTOR’S CONDITION. The edition was actually published in October 1880 and comes from the British sheets including the ad leaf for Verne’s works with prices in sterling. It was actually published a month earlier than Sampson Low’s first British edition. The story of a wealthy young Chinaman who is, after much happiness, burdened with the loss of his fortune. But this loss sends him out into the world to seek not only a new fortune, but adventures more thrilling. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
