A classic by Florey, Howard Walter (1895-1968) Australian pathologist from Adelaide who became professor of pathology at Oxford in 1935. While working with Sir Ernest Boris Chain (1906-1979), he produced a pure extract of penicillin from Penicillium notatum in 1940. Their work led to the production of sufficient penicillin for clinical treatment of infections.
