The Engravings of David Jones
London: Clover Hill Editions, 1981. Quarto. x, 96 pp.; (106)ff. One of 75 deluxe copies. A two volume set celebrating the work of the artist David Jones. Volume one contains selected engravings, preceded by the author's survey of Jones's work and a bibliography. The second volume contains an additional 96 sheets of japon illustrated with 74 wood engravings printed from the original blocks, and others printed by offset. Together with a separate set of nine copper engravings and one dry point etching printed on handmade paper from the original copper plates. The whole is accompanied by an index designed by Sebastian Carter. Volume one is bound in quarter gold morocco and green buckram with gilt leather spine label. The suite of extra engravings is housed in a two-tone full buckram clamshell box bound to match the text volume, with mildly sunned gilt leather spine labels. An extremely fine set, all housed in the original matching slipcase. T.e.g.
