Chicago: George Hill and Co, 1899. First Edition, First Issue. Hardcover. Octavo, 259; VG- in VG case; Yellow cloth boards stamped in green and red. Custom case is green with gilt lettering. The boards are straight with some rubbing and wear to the images; Corners bumped with some minor fraying to the edges of the spine; The gutters have been repaired professionally and the end papers have been replaced, though the original paste downs remain; binding has been reinforced; One plate is missing--from opposite page 261. The rare color plate between 14-15 is present, but loose. Previous owner's name inked and dated '1900.' Some toning to the pages, mostly at the outer edges; Box has some wear to the spine, with the gilt slightly worn. ISSUE POINTS: This copy has almost all of the first issue points, including a box around the advertisements; no copyright info opposite the title page; copyright on verso of the introduction, with 1899 date; colophon on rear board in box with 11 lines and first letter in color; perfect text on last lines of pages 100 and 186; page 14, line one reads "low wail on;" page 81, four lines from bottom reads "peices;" page 227, first line reads "While Tin Woodman." The plate on page 34 has the two dark spots on the moon. The only second state point is the plate opposite page 92 correcting the red line at the horizon. LP consignment; Shelved in case 3.
