United States Gold Texas w/ German French colonies Mormon 1850 old Radefeld map
1850 - Vereintigte Staaten von Nord-America und Mexico. (North America / United States / Mexico / Texas / Indian Territory / etc.) Published c.1850, Hildburghausen, Germany by Radefeld for Meyer Fascinating and detailed mid-19th century engraved German map with original outline hand color. Of particular note for the shape of Texas which extends northward in the pan handle up to include the Black Hills (!) and also the locating and naming of German and French colonies within Texas which are colored green & orange. Gold Region in California is boldly labeled, naming Sutters Fort, New Helvetia, etc. A Mormon Fort is named south of Great Salt Lake. Missouri Territory and Indian Territory occupy vast spaces with brief transitional outline forms. Sheet measures c. 12" x 10". Engraved area measures c. 9 7/8" x 7 1/2".
