John Bill 1661 - Folio, contemporary full red goatskin attributed to the Royal Head Bindery. Binding is elaborately decorated with gilt panelling to spine aand rectangular bordered designs with floral motifs. Ref Wing B.3620. Extra illustrated with 28 engravings of Saints and biblical scenes. The plates have suffered from some margin damp staining but the binding and text are in very good condition.There has been some expert repair to joints, headcaps and corners. One end leaf removed. Contemporary signatures to end papers, one of John Hynde Cotton of Madingley Hall , Cambridge, a famous Jacobite politician. The Kings Head Bindery may have been destroyed in the fire of London in 1666 as no works later than this have appeared in their bindings. [Attributes: Hard Cover]
