Et j'ai voulu la paix
London: The Egoist,, 1916. Octavo. Single quire wire stitched, self wrappers printed in black. Housed in a red cloth slipcase with chemise made by The Chelsea Bindery. Staple a touch rusty, wrappers somewhat dusty but an excellent copy. With the publisher's emendation to his address printed inside the rear wrap. First edition, sole printing. A book of war poetry of pacifist tendency by a minor but fascinating member of the modernist set. Spire - a French Jew - was an intimate of Pound, at whose suggestion and at whose apartments the party was held where James Joyce and Sylvia Beach first met. In his editorial capacity at The Egoist, Pound would have been instrumental in its publication.
