J. Osborne 1750 - London, 1750. 12mo, contemporary polished calf, 312 + 263 + 292 + 276 pp. Rebacked. With thirty three engravings, as called for (title continues: Adorned with Thirty-Three cuts, neatly engraved. The first edition of Smollett's translation, published a year after the first edition in English. With four of eight boards detached, but fine contents, and generally well preserved in good condition in the original boards which look to have been rebacked circa the 19th century. An important translation, though Blas called it in his letters "a bookseller's job, done in a hurry." (Letters 10). Please contact us for additional pictures or information.
