Chemin de Fer D'Orleans: Chaumont Les Chateaux de la Loire Circuits Automobiles
Imp. Champenois Paris: Imp. Champenois, 1921. unbound. good. Poster. Color lithograph. Page measures 41" x 29". Beautifully lithographed travel poster for the Chemin de Fer d'Orleans a Rouen railroad company. Chaumont, originally built in the 10th century as a military fortress, was razed in the mid-15th century in a fit of vengeance by Louis XI and then immediately rebuilt in part with funds provided by him. The new building was primarily a renaissance castle like the others in the area with white walls and dark pointed turrets. The artist of this poster, Constant-Duval (1877-1956), was a prolific french illustrator. Losses to corners, chipping and tears to edges.
