Let Us Compare Mythologies.
Montreal: McGill Poetry Series,, 1956. Drawings by Freda Guttman. Octavo. Original black cloth, titles to spine silver. With the dust jacket. Illustrated plates. Very slight rubbing to ends, a very good copy though the dust jacket split along the front joint, loss to spine ends and the upper outer corner of front panel. First edition, first printing, presentation copy of Cohen's first book, inscribed "For Gretchen and Ive, wishing you all good things, Leonard Cohen, January 1957". This collection of mostly teenage and student poetry was printed in small numbers as the first instalment of the McGill Poetry Series, edited by Cohen's professor Louis Dudek, advertised in the book as "the first venture of its kind in Canada... Its purpose is to present to the university community and the public the work of young writers at McGill of outstanding ability." Cohen dedicated himself to poetry in the first ten years of his adult life. It was only in 1967 that he moved to the United States to pursue his career as a folk singer.
