Kemble's sketch book
Inbunden bok. Kemble is best known for illustrating the first edition of "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" (requested to do so by Mark Twain himself), but also for his controversial (or perhaps simply derogatory?) cartoons of African Americans. Most of the drawings in this work are of African Americans... --- R. H. Russell, New York 1899 (first edition). Unpaginated original cloth hardcover containing 30 of Kemble's sketch drawings. --- Covers are alittle dust-soiled and the corners are bumped. There is also writing in pencil on the front cover, probably the name of a previous owner. Contents are fairly clean and bright (see pictures), but title page has one age spot and two pages have small margin marks from having stuck together and then opened. Inside of front cover has a very small pencil marking (price or some kind of code) and on the flyleaf there is a gift inscription. The book is intact but the binding feels alittle bit jiggly. Measure (base x height): 18.5 x 24.5 cm.
