Básn drobné [Shorter poems]
u Jozefy wdowy Fetterlové z Wildenbrunu, Prague 1820 - 12mo (14.6 × 8.8 cm). Contemporary card binding, gilt-tooled spine title and vignette; 213, [3] pp. About very good; a rather attractive copy. First appearance in book form of these poems by ?ebestián Hn vkovský (1770-1847), an important figure of the Czech "national awakening" of the early nineteenth century, and an important early theorist of Czech poetics. By contrast to many contemporaries, his work was inspired by Bohemian folk imagery and a simpler style, rather than foreign works and forms of prosody. His most acclaimed work was the epic poem D vín (1805). He was also active as a dramaturg, journalist, and translator, and was the first to render Schikaneder's libretto for Mozart's Zauberflöte into Czech. This copy from the library of Anton Ritter von Beck (1812-1895) of Celje, Slovenia. KVK, OCLC show copies at Alberta, the British Library, Chicago, Harvard, Stanford, and Toronto. [Attributes: Hard Cover]
