A Southern Winter-Wreath, Culled for the Motherless
Riverside Press, Cambridge 1866 - 12mo. [1], viii, 101pp., [2]. Green cloth hardcover with gilt stamped floral wreath and title on front cover. Blind stamped wreath and title on rear cover. All edges gilt. Soiling to green cloth on front cover. Light edge wear to cloth corners and head and base of spine. An old pencil inscription on front paste down is partially crossed out with pencil. Old pencil inscription on title page, "Maria Elliott White Orleans Square Savannah". On the preface page is an old faded small, chipped price label pasted next to the word "Savannah" and over "January 1866". Light brown spots to a few pages and a few stray pencil marks. There are 2 old pencil notes written above titled poems on different pages. The preface states "The following pieces have been written by some of the ladies and gentlemen of Savannah, and are published for the benefit of the Episcopal Orphans' Home in that city. There are also several pieces written by friends not of the city, which have been kindly contributed." Some sources have cited I. Loring Woart as the author. His contribution is found on page 26 "Lines" by the Rev. I. Loring Woart, who was Lost in The Pulaski." Other poem contributions were written by Hon. Robert M. Charlton. Association copy. Two pencil notes written presumably by Maria Elliott White: "My Brother Robert Habersham" on page 49 above the titled poem "The Village Church"; and on page 57 is a pencil note, "My Husband" above the titled poem "Lines". The Habersham family in Georgia has a long historical record dating back to colonial Georgia. [Attributes: First Edition]
