THE SPY WHO CAME IN FROM THE COLD
New York: Coward-McCann, 1964. First Edition. Hardcover. Very good/Very good. The first American edition. A British intelligence agent is assigned to help a former Nazi counterspy escape from East Germany, unaware that he himself is merely a pawn in a larger game of espionage. This breakthrough novel by John le Carre (pseudonym of David Cornwell, b.1931), was so successful that he was able to resign his government position in order to pursue writing full time. This copy is inscribed by le Carre on the title page. Octavo. Original paper-covered boards over a red cloth spine, with gilt titles. Minor bit of edgewear to the boards and the dust jacket, with a faint stain to the front panel; otherwise very good.
