New Jersey: The Golden Hind Press Inc, 1935 - Octavo. Original white paper-backed boards, spine titled and decorated in gilt, green decorated paper sides, green endpapers. Extremities a little rubbed, text block a little toned. Photographic frontispiece and 9 photographic plates of nude women tipped-in. First and limited Golden Hind edition, one of 1,000 copies of which 950 were for sale. This "manual or guide to making love" was first published in 1873 under the title Kama Shastra or The Hindoo Art of Love. The Golden Hind Press was founded in 1927 by Arthur W. Rushmore, a book designer for Harper & Brothers, as an experiment in fine printing. It was largely a family venture, which Rushmore operated with his wife and two daughters. Casada 73.
