Photo Album]: Mediterranean Travel Photos
1929 - Oblong octavo. Measuring 11" x 7.5". String-tied brown papercovered boards with gilt decoration. Containing 194 gelatin silver photographs measuring between 3" x 2" and 4.5" x 2.5", most with captions. Overall near fine with wear at the edges and scuffing to the boards with internally fine photos. A collection of photos assembled by a young Ohio woman of a trip to Northern Africa, the Middle East, and Southern Europe with family and friend. The photos start on board the S.S. New York before arriving on the island of Madeira, followed by images of Morocco (Casablanca and the Rabat), Algiers (various street views), Tunis (Carthage Amphitheater), Malta, Jerusalem (Wailing Wall, Garden of Gethsemane, native guides), Egypt (sailing on the Nile River, riding camels in the Sahara Desert, views of the Sphinx and the Pyramids of Giza), Constantinople [Istanbul], Greece (The Acropolis, the island of Corfu), Italy (Venice Canals and St. Mark's Square, Mt. Vesuvius and Pompeii, the island of Capri), Portugal, and finally Gibraltar. The album ends with a dozen photos at home and another dozen in and around the Grand Canyon in the American West. A nice collection of travel images taken between the two wars.
