R Faulder, London 1794 - pp 432 [no index] Volume I of the Biographia owned and inscribed to a British naval captain by his brother during the Napoleonic wars. Inscribed on the second blank: 'From John Hawker to his brother Capt. Ed'd Hawker of His Maj.y Ship Melamper 1811'. Bound in half blue morocco over marbled boards, rubbing to extremities, a very good and attractive copy. Hawker commanded the Melampus from 1807 to 1812 serving off North America, supporting the invasion of Guadaloupe in 1810 and capturing the Fantome before taking up the command of HMS Bellerophon in 1812.
