The Basilisk Press, London 1975 - Facsimile edition of the original Kelmscott Chaucer, printed in 1896. Elaborately patterned cloth in red and beige, with blue-grey paper title-labels and black lettering, in sturdy wooden slipcase. 310 x 450 x 67mm, main volume; 310 x 450 x 42mm, supplementary volume. 554pp, and 146pp. Edition limited to 515 copies, of which 500 were for sale. This is No. 29. Very high-quality production, with cloth printed by Liberty of London, paper specially made at Saint Cuthbert's Mill at Wells, Somerset, and binding by A. W. Lumsden in Edinburgh. The Companion Volume contains b/w illustrations and photographs within the text, and an extensive section of laid-on facsimile reproductions of eighty-five of Burne-Jones's pencil drawings for the original edition. Each volume also contains a spare title-label inside the rear cover. Outer surface of wooden slipcase is a little scuffed and grubby. Neither of the volumes shows any significant signs of wear on the covers, and both are immaculate internally. NB: An extra shipping charge may be requested for heavier or more valuable items.
