Paris: A Paris Chez Marcilly rue S. Julien le Pinvre, No. ?, 1810. 64mo (29 by 18 mm; 1 1/8 by 3/4 inches). [1810]. pp. 62. 12 full page engraved illustrations. Text in French. Contemporary French? leather binding with gilt decoration to spine and ruled decoration to covers. Gilt flower motif to centre of each cover. Original stitching through spine. Minor wear to the covers, gilt rubbed in places. One leaf (title page/illustration) torn down the inner edge, but complete and holding, p17/18 has piece missing down fore edge, affecting text and illustration, Piece missing from bottom corner of p25/26 affecting text, p33/34 mostly missing, inner edge remains with small part of text. Some creasing to corners, otherwise a good sound copy of this scarce 'microscopic' miniature. No copies located by copac or worldcat..The art of the Almanac reached a peak in France where a large number were produced in miniature format and often reduced to such small sizes that they are now classified as 'Almanachs Microscopiques'. These 'microscopic' almanacs began to appear around the 1760's, mainly intended as presents for ladies or young people. Most were bound in elaborate red or maroon morocco. Many were produced by Marcilly in Paris between 1790 and 1814, most containing 12 plates.
