1700 - Antique print, titled: 'Quaad Voor Teken [ ].' - (Bad omen). This rare original antique print shows 'The bossy wife'. The text below, in Dutch, speaks of the Hen playing the Rooster and 'Wanneer de vrou den Broeck begeert / Zoo is het Gantsche huijs onteert' (When the wife desires to wear the pants / the whole household goes awry). Source unknown, to be determined. Copperplate engraving / etching. on hand laid (verge) paper. Made by 'Petrus Schenk' after an anonymous artist. Published by Pieter/ Petrus Schenk / Schenck the elder (1660-1711/1713), a German engraver and cartographer active in Amsterdam and Leipzig. One of his specialties was the mezzotint. Rare undescribed satire. Good, given age. Horizontal and vertical folds. Irregular edges as issued. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully. The overall size is ca. 21 x 32.5 cm. The image size is ca. 17 x 27 cm. The overall size is ca. 8.3 x 12.8 inch. The image size is ca. 6.7 x 10.6 inch.
