Ms. Brief mit eigenh. U.
Monrovia, 30. VIII. 1944. - 1 S. Qu.-8vo. An den Schriftsteller und Journalisten Robert Breuer (1909-96): "As to the question of German words in English, all students of language have to reconcile themselves to the fact that usage determines what is correct in the long run, and if the American people decide to use German words in a certain way, the Germans have to reconcile themselves to this no matter how barbarous it sounds to them. The same thing applied to the use of American words by the Germans, or by the French or any other people. For example, the French use the American phrase high life, but they choose to pronounce it higgleef, which sounds rather silly to us but means something to the French. So don’t be too sad about Der Fuehrer’s face [.]". Briefkopf. [Attributes: Soft Cover]
