Kitab Nihayat al-Arab fi Akhbar al-Arab
Marseille, 1852 - Iskander Abcarius (1826-1885) was an author of poems and historical works. He studied in England, published the “Story of Shahriar Lion-King” ephos (1880), “Classification of Arabian poets”, “Unusual events in Mountainous Lebanon in 1860” and other books. He was the son of Yaqub Abcarius who was a bishop and public figure. Abcarius was a well-known Arab Armenian family of intellectuals. Becoming devoted to the study of Arabic literature, he endeavored to provide his readers with anthologies based upon works still unpublished and thereby rendered great service to orientalism in the 19th century. This was his first work to be published the Nihayat al-arab fi ak̲h̲bar al-Arab which he completed in 1851 and published the following year at the Falah press in Marseille. The book begins by mentioning some historical aspects of pre-islamic Arabia like the kings, princes and some important events and wars, then mentions some of the well-known pre-islamic poets with some excerpts of their poetry including the Seven Muallaqat and others.
