(plate mark 375 x 255mm) Mezzotint profile portrait of Friedrich Wilhelm Prince of Hohenlohe Kirchberg (1732-96), Austrian quartermaster general in a seated position, his right hand resting on a table with a fieldglass, scientific instruments and a hat, his left hand holding a partially unfolded military survey map. Hohenlohe was an outstanding military commander, and mentor to the Archduke Charles, who was assigned to his staff in 1792. He was awarded the Grand Cross of the Military Order of Maria Theresia for his successes against the French Revolutionary army in 1793; he won a decisive battle in the Austro-Turkish War, and was appointed quartermaster general during independent command in Transylvania in 1789.
