London: Jonathan Cape 1971. FIRST EDITION, SIGNED AND INSCRIBED BY TOM MASCHLER. Octavo, pp.351 + [1]. Publisher's hardcover in original dust-wrapper. One of an unspecified number of publisher's in-house presentation copies, with a printed commemorative label affixed to the flyleaf and additional director's slip attached to pastedown bearing the hand-written note 'Oliver Swan / We would / like you to have/ a copy of this / with our compliments / Tom.' Spine toned else a near fine copy. With much content on Ian Fleming and his relationship with 'The Factory' at 30 Bedford Square, written by Cape's chairman, who was also a close friend and editor to Ian Fleming. Tom Maschler who succeeded Michael Howard as head of Cape, brought in popular sixties author's to the firm, including Beatle John Lennon and novelist Len Deighton; along with Ian Fleming, he was a key figure in founding the Booker Prize.
