Mayer Sulzberger (1843-1923) was Chairman of the Publication Committee of the Jewish Publication Society of America. He was a Judge of Common Pleas Court from 1895-1902 when he was elevated to President Judge of Common Pleas Court, serving until 1915 when, at age 72, he retired voluntarily. Judge Sulzberger’s obituary in “The New York Times” noted that he “had a national reputation as a Jewish scholar and was the possessor of one of the finest private libraries in America.” The “Perez volume mentioned is “Stories and Pictures” by Isaac Loeb Perez, a book of Eastern European Yiddish tales published by The Jewish Publication Society of America in Philadelphia in 1906.
