Poems of Conformity.
London: Humphrey Milford, Oxford University Press, 1917 - Octavo. Original green cloth, spine and front cover lettered in gilt. With the dust jacket. Head of spine very slightly bumped. An excellent copy in the dust jacket, spine panel slightly faded and marked. First edition, first impression. Charles Williams (1886–1945) was a British writer who was a member of the Inklings, J. R. R. Tolkien and C. S Lewis's discussion group at Oxford. Williams's second book of poetry, the work is ambitious and, despite its title, anything but conformist, merging religion with sex and politics. The poet Alice Meynell gave the book a positive review, declaring that Williams was "alone among the writers of his generation by the quality of his imagination and even by the turn of his verse". Very rare in the dust jacket. Grevel Lindrop, Charles Williams: The Third Inkling, p. 89. [Attributes: First Edition]
