1840 - First edition in English. Lacks folding map. 8vo. Handsomely rebound in contemporary full calf, gilt ruled, red morocco label to spine, titled in gilt,raised bands and gilt pictorial stamp of the Northern Light Board. Marbled endpapers, all edges marbled. Internally very bight and clean. cxxxvii, 413pp. London, James Madden & Co., An attractive copy in the Northern Light Board binding, unfortunately lacking the folding map. According to the preface, the work was originally drawn up in German by ?M. Engelhardt, from the [original Russian] journals and papers of M. von Wrangel and the other officers of the expedition . . . and was published at Berlin, in July, 1839, under the editorial care of Professor C. Ritter, with the sanction of M. von Wrangel . The [English] translation has been made by Mrs.Sabine. reduced into a somewhat smaller compass than the original.?
