Desert Rat Sketch Book. Written and illustrated, on-the-spot, in fill colour by Clifford Saber. With forewords by Tom Lea and Stephen Galatti.
Sketchbook Press, New York 1959 - First Edition. Landscape 4to. 187pp. Beige buckram lettered in gold at spine and with Saber's holograph signature gold-stamped to upper board. Map-illustrated colour endpapers. Illustrated with forty-five magnificent full page colour drawings, plus dozens of other drawings in the text, many coloured. Six leaves creased, probably a production fault and some light miscellaneous staining to the fore edge margin of a preliminary leaf. Backstrip lightly tanned. A very good copy of a most delightful and elusive item, housed in original stiff card slipcase, a little chafed at some edges and with a short split to one natural fold. A pictorial record of the everyday life of a Desert Rat, created during the ten-month period the author served as a volunteer ambulance driver with the 8th Army; and accompanied by edited extracts from his letters home. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
