The Coronal; Original Poems, sacred and miscellaneous.
Hamilton, Adams and Co., London 1833 - FIRST EDITION, 16mo, pp. vii, [i], 183, [1]. Original red silk, spine lettered in gilt, edges gilt. Cloth worn at joints and spine ends. The first edition of this collection by Mary Ann Browne (1812-1845), who published her first book of poetry at the age of 15 and died in childbirth early in 1845. She was highly praised by her contemporaries - Mary Russell Mitford thought her better in some ways than George Sand, and Coleridge had wished to meet her. The Coronal sold well enough to be reissued in 1835 and a second edition (under the latter part of the title only) appeared shortly before her death. All editions of the book now appear to be rare - and must especially be so in the fragile original silk binding - with COPAC locating only one copy of each, all of them at the BL. Worldcat adds two other copies of this first edition, in UC Davis and Massey College in Toronto. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
