JOHN MURRAY, LONDON 1898 - 8vo (19.5cm) publisher's cloth - standard binding, xxi, 432pp, glossary, index. Folding diagram. Freeman: F455 CONDITION: FINE. Covers and glit are very bright. No repairs. Slight rubbing to head of spine, which has a minor professional repair. Very little shelf wear and spine and gilt shows very well indeed. Original endpapers are intact with minor browning, as usual. No inks or previous names A few spots to front edge of text-block. Folding diagram (see photo) has several foxing spots, but otherwise fine and crisp. A little dustiness to upper edge. A highly presentable copy with very little wear and which looks superb on the shelf. ********** The sixth edition is the edition in which the word "evolution" was used for the first time (although Darwin used this term in the Descent of Man, published a year earlier). This edition was also the last one that Darwin revised during his lifetime; in 1872 a new chapter was added and in 1876 Darwin added his own corrections. [Attributes: Hard Cover]
