London: Oxford University Press, 1916 - Octavo (180 x 126 mm). Contemporary tree calf, raised bands to spine ruled and richly decorated in gilt, morocco label, covers bordered in gilt floral roll, turn-ins gilt, board edges gilt, marbled endpapers, edges gilt. Bookplate to verso of front free endpaper. Spine and head of covers lightly faded. Otherwise a fine copy. Frontispiece with tissue guard, illustrations to text, all by Flaxman. A handsomely bound copy of Cary's translation of Dante's classic work, first published in 1814 and considered to be the best of the Romantic era.
