Born in Adelaide, Samuel Albert White (1870-1954) became the President of the South Australian Ornithological Association and of the Royal Australasian Ornithologists' Union. White conducted several major collecting expeditions, mad e an ornithological survey of South Australia and the Northern Territory, and collaborated with Gregory Mathews on \i The Birds of Australia .
