Ex-library, with only a couple of internal library marks. With numerous portraits, illustrations, and maps. His wife drew not from his books, but from his private journals. Burton was an explorer, ethnographer, and man of letters. He was a pilgrim to Mecca and Harar and discovered Lake Tanganyika. He also translated the Arabian Nights.
