Daniel Webster
n.d.. Oil Painting of Daniel Webster, 25” x 30”, attributed to American artist James Reid Lambdin (1807-1889), head-and-shoulders portrait, facing slightly left. Framed to 29.75” x 34.75”.

An oil painting of Webster by Lambdin, a head-and-shoulders portrait of the “Great Orator” facing slightly right, similar in size, sold at Christie’s New York in 2010 for $6,675. From the Philadelphia History Museum at the Atwater Kent, it was sold to benefit the Collection Fund and the Historical Society of Pennsylvania.

The National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., has a three-quarter face pose, facing left, oil painting of Webster, similar in size, c. 1850, attributed to Lambdin, in its Andrew W. Mellon Collection.

The Smithsonian Institution’s American Art Museum Art Inventories Catalogue lists yet another Lambdin oil painting of Daniel Webster in the U.S. Capitol building, a head-and-shoulders portrait, facing slightly right.
