Jena, Johann Bielcke, 1701. 8vo. (8),+ 88 pp. Slight foxing. Small losses of paper in the margins of pp. (9) and 129 in the first work. Small ink notation on the first title page. Contemporary vellum. Front inner joint damaged, front fly leaf partly loose. Pencil and crayon scribbles and notes on the inside of the boards. Bookseller's label of Bibliothèque Chacornac "Libraire des sciences occultes". Collijn 826, for the first title. Schefferus is said to have gotten the idea for this book from queen Christina, who in a discussion asked him to compile all antique testimonies of Pythagorean philosopy. Schefferus set forth with his usual diligence. The main source is the neoplatonist Iamblichus, but Porphyry and Plutarch are cited as well. A new edition was printed in Wittemberg in 1701. Johan Jakob Syrbius (1674-1738) was a lutheran theologist and philosopher, this book contains an introduction to the physics of the Pythagoreans
